Vitamin C must be the most familiar of all the essential nutrients. Even kids know that a glass of OJ is packed with Vitamin C.
But in conducting our
research on this vitamin my team and I discovered there is quite a lot
of debate in the scientific community about this remarkable nutrient.
Dr. Linus Pauling
himself, the "Father of Vitamin C" and twice awarded the Nobel Prize,
believed that large intakes of up to 10,000 milligrams of vitamin C each
day aids anti-cancer activity within the body.
Still, researchers
today don't seem to agree on what is an appropriate dosage. There is a
large disagreement about the amount that the body can store. And its
various health benefits are in dispute.
But here are a few facts that everyone seems to agree on...
- Vitamin C is an antioxidant which protects the body against oxidative stress
- It's water soluble so it easily washes away from your system.
- The body can't produce its own Vitamin C and requires a constant supply.
- It's an essential "cofactor" in at least 8 enzymatic reactions your body needs to live.
Keep in mind that Vitamin C is also an ACID called ascorbate. And that brings us to the first problem with Vitamin C.
PROBLEM 1
It's nearly
impossible to get too much Vitamin C from food alone, but it is possible
to get too much if you're taking high dosage vitamin C supplements.
Too much Vitamin C could result in Vitamin C Toxicity.
When the high dosage of Vitamin C from your supplement isn't absorbed
into your cells and washed away, the additional acidity in the body can
cause ...
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Abdominal Cramps
- Indigestion
- Gastritis
So now you might be thinking, "Avoid the supplements and just eat foods packed with Vitamin C... right?"
PROBLEM 2
Wrong.
Foods rich in Vitamin
C like oranges and strawberries don't have anywhere near the amount of
Vitamin C you'd find in a supplement. What's more, nature's Vitamin C is
suspended in water from the fruit which means unless they are
immediately absorbed they are just going to get flushed out. (Remember,
"water soluble")
Now we DON'T RECOMMEND you stop eating fruits and vegetables packed with Vitamin C. And we DON'T RECOMMEND you stop taking Vitamin C supplements. Here's why.
- Vitamin C is essential for repairing body tissue and maintaining teeth, cartilage and bones.
- Vitamin C is one of the antioxidants that provides protection against free radicals and toxic chemicals.
- Vitamin C prevents serious complications (lung infections and pneumonia) that may result from the common cold.
- Vitamin C may be helpful in supporting the body's immune system
- Vitamin C lowers the risk of skin dryness and wrinkles. It also reduces premature signs of aging skin.
- Vitamin C has shown to improve conditions caused by macular degeneration
So what DO we recommend?
Well, the problem in a
nutshell is getting a large dosage of Vitamin C into your body without
it washing away AND absorbing it quickly enough and in a high enough
dosage that it doesn't cause a reaction to its high acidity.
Our research team recently discovered a product that does exactly these 2 things.
It's called Vitality C. It's a non-acidic, neutral pH Vitamin C powder.
This unique formula
allows the body to receive high doses of Vitamin C without the gas,
diarrhea, or stomach upset that usually comes with regular "acidic"
Vitamin C supplements.
Plus, Vitality C is
fortified with 2000mg of GMS-Ribose which studies have shown works to
enhance the uptake of Vitamin C into your body's cells.
So you get more nutrient where it belongs-and not washed away. And our research team highly recommends it.
